1. Take a Road Trip Instead of Flying

Depending on the destination of your travels, it might be cheaper to travel by car instead of plane. If the type of travel that will save you the most money is taking a road trip, then here is another way to save more money. Apps like GasBuddy and SmartFuel help you find the cheapest gas prices at your current location throughout the United States.

2. Search for Deals in the Local Area That You Will Be Traveling to

Search for local places within your travel destination, and search for cheaper deals on those attractions. Sign up to be a part of the email list for those places that offer attractions by there, so you will be notified when there are deals and packages.

3. Know When to Fly and When to Buy

The airports are almost always busy all year round. But, there are times of the year when it is best to fly to avoid expensive flight prices and the airport rush. It is best to fly during January after the New Years holiday, the beginning of December, and through the spring and fall months but, avoiding typical spring break weeks. Websites like Kayak will help you find the cheapest flights for you destination. It’s best to plan your trip ahead and buy your plane tickets in advance. But sometimes, the prices of tickets could drop on the date closest to your departure.

4. Bring Your Own Food for Snacks

Why spend four dollars on one food item when you could save those dollars for something else? No matter if you are travelling by plane or car, the price of food at airports and at fast food places start to add up. Go to the grocery store before your trip to get your snacks at a cheaper price.

5. Plan Your Trip Ahead of Time

Spontaneous trips are fun but, you want to make sure you have enough money to spend before so you can enjoy your trip. To get the most out of the trip, it’s best to plan out what you want to do so that you can budget accordingly.

6. Stay at Other Places Rather Than a Hotel

If you are looking to stay somewhere cheaper other than a hotel, try staying at vacation rental places, B&B’s, or hostels. Most of those prices are a lot cheaper than the price of staying at a hotel. Also, check to see if a friend of family member lives close to your travel destination. They might be nice enough to let you stay with them for a week.

7. Do Activities Outside Instead of Inside

It can be tempting to go to a theme park or big local events, especially if you are traveling to an area that is a hot tourist attraction. Instead of spending money on those events, spend your time outside. Activities like going for a hike in the mountains or going to the beach are either free or are only a small price.
